These moisturizers soften and hydrate the skin without leaving it feeling slick or shiny. When the temperature rises, it’s not advisable to use rich or heavy moisturizers because it could lead to a buildup of sweat and grime. The lighter texture suits warmer weather, and people with active oil production because their non-heavy formula ensures moisture replenishment without a greasy feeling.

Discovering Ayurveda: A Journey of Healing

Growing up in suburban Ohio, my life revolved around the typical American routine: school, sports, and social events. While I enjoyed my life, I often felt a sense of restlessness, a feeling that something was missing. I was always curious about different cultures and ways of living, but it wasn’t until my junior year of college that I stumbled upon something that would change my life—Ayurveda.

It all started during a stressful semester. I was juggling a part-time job, a full course load, and the pressure of impending finals. One night, exhausted and overwhelmed, I decided to attend a wellness seminar at my university. The speaker, a vibrant woman with a soothing presence, spoke passionately about Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine. Intrigued, I stayed for the whole session, captivated by her description of balance and holistic health.

She introduced us to the concept of doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—and explained how each person embodies a unique combination of these energies. The idea that our bodies and minds have different needs based on these elements resonated with me. I was curious and decided to learn more.

I spent the next few weeks devouring books and online resources about Ayurveda. I discovered how food, lifestyle, and even the seasons could affect our health. I learned about herbal remedies and the importance of digestion—something I had never truly considered before. I found a local Ayurvedic practitioner and booked an appointment, eager to explore this new world.

During my first visit, the practitioner, Dr. Mira, conducted a thorough assessment. She took my pulse, observed my skin and tongue, and asked about my daily habits. Afterward, she explained my dosha composition: I was predominantly Pitta, which meant I was fiery, ambitious, and often prone to stress and anxiety. Dr. Mira crafted a personalized plan for me, focusing on dietary changes, meditation, and self-care practices to help restore balance.

At first, I was skeptical about changing my diet. I was a pizza-and-burgers kind of girl, and the idea of embracing warm spices, ghee, and herbal teas felt foreign. But desperation pushed me to give it a try. I started incorporating more cooked vegetables and warming spices into my meals and made a commitment to meditate daily, even if it was just for ten minutes.

The transformation was gradual but profound. As I embraced this new way of living, I felt lighter, both physically and mentally. The bloating I had always attributed to my fast-food diet began to dissipate, and my anxiety started to lessen. I felt more connected to my body and learned to listen to its signals. I realized that self-care wasn’t selfish; it was essential.

Encouraged by my progress, I decided to take my journey a step further. I enrolled in an Ayurveda course online, where I learned about herbal medicine, cooking techniques, and the philosophy behind this ancient practice. I even began sharing my newfound knowledge with friends, hosting small dinners featuring Ayurvedic recipes, complete with explanations about the benefits of each dish.

My experience with Ayurveda opened my eyes to a new way of living—one that prioritizes balance, mindfulness, and the connection between mind and body. I became more aware of my habits, embracing yoga and meditation as part of my daily routine. It was liberating to recognize that wellness is not just about physical health but also about emotional and spiritual well-being.

By the time I graduated, I felt transformed. Ayurveda had not only helped me navigate the stress of college but also set the foundation for a healthier lifestyle. I moved to a new city for a job after graduation, and while I missed my small town and the comfort of familiarity, I felt ready for this new adventure.

Now, several years later, Ayurveda is woven into the fabric of my life. I’m still the same girl from Ohio, but I’m more balanced and mindful. I continue to explore this holistic approach, and I’ve even started considering further studies in Ayurveda, perhaps as a way to help others find their own paths to wellness.

In a world that often pushes us to keep up with the hustle, my discovery of Ayurveda has been a gentle reminder to slow down, listen to myself, and find harmony within. And for that, I am eternally grateful.
